• Ullr Fest: Of course, we would be remiss not to mention skiing in a town like Breckinridge, known across the country and around the world for its beautiful ski slopes. During the holiday season, skiing is more than just skiing. In fact, Breckenridge is home to a unique, one-of-a-kind event called Ullr Fest. Ullr Fest is an event sure to please snow lovers of all ages as well as anyone who enjoys history, mythology, or simply having a good time. Ullr Fest is truly a trademark Breckenridge event. It is an annual celebration of the Viking people and specifically Ullr, the winter god of Norse mythology. Skiers and snowboarders alike are encouraged to wear their Viking gear as they take to the slopes. You may see skiers racing by wearing horned Viking helmets while other more temperature tolerant individuals are plunging into the freezing Maggie Pond as part of the festivities. A massive bonfire takes place where vacationers and locals alike gather around and join in ancient Norse chants. There are many other enjoyable and fun activities that are part of Ullr Fest as well.
